Faster Pussycat... remains Meyer's best-known film, and a cult movie par excellence, though it's not his best work or even typical of his output. The story of three strippers who take off on a road trip of violence and car chases is, however, a classic slice of exploitation film-making.

Strangely devoid of nudity, the film instead revels in violence - though nothing too excessive - and Meyer's glorious dialogue, which is as ripe here as in any of his films. The three stars - Tura Satana, Haji and Lori Williams - are all sensational, but it is of course Satana who burns up the screen as Varla, one of the best villains in the history of cinema. Shot in crisp black and white and with a killer soundtrack, Faster Pussycat, Kill! Kill! has the best movie title ever, and manages to live up to every gloriously demented image that hearing it makes you expect.

Arrow's DVD is a must: not only a sharp new transfer of the film, but also featuring Meyer's commentary track from the laser disc (strangely missing from the US DVD release) and a new commentary by the three pussycats themselves.
