Playground's Beat the Devil is a nice try to
make an upmarket slice of supernatural porn, but is hardly in
the same
league as the work of Michael Ninn, Antonio Passolini or James
Avalon.
Director Robby D. tries hard and his ideas are interesting,
but the film looks cheap and the subliminal flashes are less
impressive than the director obviously feels them to be.
If you want to see porn starlet Jesse Jane in her first boy-girl
scenes then this is for you - and to be fair, she's impressively
rampant - albeit in a plastic, Barbie Doll way.
But this is generally not as good as I'd hoped.
At least the DVD comes with copious extras including a behind-the-scenes
documentary and audio commentary from director and star, which
is something.
